Project Description
The purpose of the study was to provide City of Gold Coast Council with a strategic direction for the next 15 years with recommendations on future requirements, based on assessment of the demand on existing indoor stadiums and expected growth within the City.
The following indoor categories were included within the study:
- Indoor Court sports
- Commercial Indoor Court sports
- Specialist Facility Indoor sports
- General Facility Indoor sports
- Indoor Recreational sports.
OPG needed to consider the significant growth expected for the City of Gold Coast as well as the location, use and types of facilities currently available, in order to develop a suitable facility provision. Through engagement with key stakeholders, demand assessments and assessment of the current network of facilities, a range of recommendations were able to be developed to meet the future needs.
The recommended future direction includes strategies that maximise the financial sustainability for Council’s investment in indoor facilities by:
- Maximising partnership opportunities to share the provision and management burden; and
- Maximising the use and viability of current facilities.
