Project Description
Otium team members (previously working as SGL) were commissioned in 1993 to work with KPMG to develop a feasibility study for a new Indoor/Outdoor State Sports Centre in Melbourne. The centre became the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre and stage one was built and opened in 1997 at a cost of $56M. SGL was involved in all stages of conceptual design, detailed design and business and management planning. SGL also assisted with Governance reviews and developed the concept for the State Sports Centres Trust Management Model. The centre has had two further stages of development for the 2006 Commonwealth Games Facilities and in 2009 for new leisure water facilities. SGL was involved in all of these stages of development and is now retained to complete stage four master planning concepts with Peddle Thorp Architects.
