Project Description
The Richmond Football Club (RFC) identified that its’ high performance and club development facilities, located at Punt Road Oval (opened in 2011) required immediate expansion. This responded to the increased high use of the Punt Road facility which is now the home to Richmond AFL, VFL and AFLW teams as well as a significant number of community programs and events. Community programs and community use in particular had become limited due to over-crowded use and did not meet the clubs’ expanding community program role.
Otium Planning Group was engaged by the RFC to investigate future site development options at Punt Road Oval. It also included developing plans, the indicative cost estimates and a funding strategy for those options.
The work undertaken by Otium identified two future development options, with the preferred option to cost in the order of $60M. To achieve this funding, Otium proposed that the club develop a project partnership funding strategy.
Project partners identified to provide contributions included:
· Federal Government
· Victorian State Government
· Melbourne City Council
· AFL Development Funding
· Swinburne University
· Medical – Allied Health Providers
· RFC contributions including the legacy fund from supporters.
The club is currently conducting a significant fundraising campaign to coincide with the forthcoming federal election.
